Time:

9:00 PM
Event Type:
Press Conference
Organizer/Author:
Heather
Location Details:
South Berkeley Senior Center, 2939 Ellis St., Berkeley, CA
We DEMAND that the City of Berkeley include folks who are in the “extremely low income” category (making $0 to $18,750/year for one-person household) in their affordable housing plan!
This includes seniors, single parent households, people who are disabled, emancipated foster youth, and young adults.
Right now, the city's affordable housing plan includes housing subsidies only for “low” to “moderate” income people (making $46,350 to $75,000/year for one-person household!).
We urge the city of Berkeley to include language that prioritizes the creation of subsidized units for extremely low income people in the "Housing Element," an official plan for the future of affordable housing in Berkeley.
We also encourage greater landlord participation in subsidy programs.
A young people's contingent will be leaving from YEAH! Youth Engagement Advocacy Housing located at 1744 University Ave. at 6:30pm.
There are women, men, and children who CANNOT AFFORD to sleep indoors in the City of Berkeley. Join us!
