For the 5th year running we'll create a safe space for the ritual burning of American flags.

They say that flag burning is desecration. Not the way we do it.
We raise the burning flag up as a sacred symbol representing our highest ideals as Americans.
This is flag consecration. We don't take our American freedoms lightly, we demonstrate and celebrate them.
Technically, flag desecration includes using the flag in advertising, on clothing and as a decoration.
We assert that the common usage of the American flag in our culture is desecration. Look it up, it's true.
The American Flag is so great a symbol that it represents the right to burn it.
This is revolutionary patriotism and we encourage the brave and proud among us to step across the line in the sand
and stand with us.

Flag burning is protected in the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.
It was protected by congress and ratified by the states in 1989. It was felt that those American protesters during the Viet Nam
War should have had the right to protest their government in this non-violent manner. Nationalists in congress have spent years
trying to add an asterisk to the First Amendment outlawing flag desecration.
In 2006 they came within one vote but the Old Time American Flag Burn had captured the national imagination and congress hasn't presented a viable bill ever since.

We celebrate the 5th Annual Old Time American Flag Burn on Friday, July 3 at Seabright Beach in Santa Cruz, CA.
The burn ritual will start promptly at 8pm. Located at the far west (right hand) fire ring.
Whether you come to celebrate, protest, or simply bear witness to our American freedom in action, we welcome you to join us.
And please, BYOF - bring your own flag!
