Protest Military Coup in Honduras
Honduran Consulate, 870 Market St. (near Powell St.)
Protest the right-wing military coup against Honduran President Manuel Zelaya. The coup took place this morning (June 28) the day of a scheduled referendum on constitutional reform. President Zelaya was arrested and forcibly exiled to Costa Rica.
Last year, Honduras joined the progressive ALBA-Bolivarian Alternative of the Americas which includes Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua and other states. Ambassadors of other ALBA states have reportedly been kidnapped and beaten. For decades, Honduras has been the victim of U.S. intervention and military dictatorships.
The protest has been initiated by the FMLN-Farbundo Marti National LIberation Front of Northern California and endorsed by the ANSWER Coalition and other organizations.
