Doggin' Democrats at Fundraiser
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius was guest speaker at Nancy Pelosi's $500-per-plate “Ultimate Women’s Power Lunch" at the Fairmont Hotel today. Sebelius said earlier this month that dismantling private health coverage was "a bad direction to go." Her comment, plus Pelosi's lack of support for a Single Payer health care plan, had about 150 health care reform activists hoppin' mad enough to make a lot of noise in front of the Fairmont during the luncheon. Also attending the fundraiser was Rep. Anna Eshoo, another congressperson who has shown a lack of concern for her constituents' needs for comprehensive health care reform in the form of a single payer plan.
Nurses, patients, doctors, and Raging Grannies costumed as nurses, patients, and doctors joined other healthcare advocates to protest Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius' visit to San Francisco today. Secretary Sebelius recently said that "single-payer is not part of the discussion." Her statement reflects the the fact that politicians are looking out for their big pharma and insurance industry donors despite private healthcare industry's long record of patient abuse.
Demonstrators chanted as Pelosi exited a car to enter the Fairmont Hotel:
Nancy Nancy you can't hide
Insurers are on your side!
