Video Presentation: “The Laramie Project,” selected as the Opening Night Premiere of the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, this film is a groundbreaking HBO film event that re-creates the efforts of a New York theater troupe to shed light on a western town’s loss of innocence following the hate crime perpetrated on a 21-year-old University of Wyoming student. It is based on the theatrical version of the Matthew Shepard murder story, a real incident that took place in 1998 in Wyoming. Sheperd’s plight became a lightning rod for rallies against homophobia and hate crimes. The film features an all-star cast. 97 minutes. PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO NOONTIME SHOWING DURING THE SUMMER WHEN SCHOOL IS NOT IN SESSION. ONE SHOWING ONLY AT 7 PM. Wheelchair accessible. FREE. For info: 237-3223. This event will be shown at the Fresno Center for Nonviolence, 1584 N. Van Ness in Fresno.
