San Francisco Protests After Prop 8 is Upheld by State Supreme Court

As in all civil rights struggles the courts will never be the defining factor in achieving real equality for same sex couples. To push this struggle forward the most important thing is to build a broad grassroots movement of the people. When the court's decision was released on Tuesday morning thousands of people turned out in San Francisco throughout the day. First with a civil disobedience that blocked Van Ness for hours and resulted in the arrest of over 200 people. And in the evening there was a rally in Civic Center followed by march that went to the Martin Luther King Memorial in Yerba Buena and then marched to the Castro for another rally in the streets.
