Update: Uhuru Foods reinstated at Maker Faire

by Maureen Wagener
Supporters emails and phone calls have resulted in reinstatement of Uhuru Foods at the Maker Faire.

Your emails and calls showed that the Uhuru Movement and Uhuru Foods are widely supported. Individuals wrote in from all over the country and from diverse segments of the community to show the real base of support of the Uhuru Movement for self-determination, social justice and economic development for the African community. Thanks!
This morning, Uhuru Foods received a call from the Ovations Vice President saying that the issue has been resolved and that Uhuru Foods' space at Maker Faire is reserved.

We think it is important that the movement for self-determination and true sustainability for African people is going to be represtented by Uhuru Foods at the Maker Faire. It's because of your involvement.

African people are building programs like the African Village Survival Initiative (AVSI) that will build a real sustainable future where Africans have control of their own communities and resources for their own collective benefit. This is just one of the campaigns supported by the work of Uhuru Foods.
Here are just a few quotes from some of the letters that were sent to us, to Maker Faire, Ovations and San Mateo Event Center:

"Most high schoolers must complete community service hours before they graduate. What better way to do this than to learn how to prepare healthy food in a fast paced environment while working in solidarity with the African community?" -- Oscar O'Farrell

"I choose to volunteer with Uhuru Foods because they are the only group I have found to consistently and unapoligetically advocate for the well being of the black community." -- David Reardon

"I am a 60+ year old retired nurse and have found the Uhuru people to be kind, conscientious people who try to sell healthy food in order to support African American community centers." -- Ellen Helferd
