THE SAN FRANCISCO LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER LOOKS LIKE A PLACE WHERE QUEER AND TRANS FOLKS CAN FIND SERVICES, BUT IT IS ACTUALLY A NON-PROFIT OFFICE PARK PORTAL TO THE 8TH DIMENSION, DESIGNED TO PUSH US ALL TOWARD A MORE PERFECT OBLIVION.

DE-CENTER THE CENTER!!
WHERE: The San Francisco LGBT Center, 1800 Market Street
WHEN: Thursday June 25, 2009 – 6 PM SHARP!
WHAT: De-Center The Center, Reverse Polarity
WHY: REVERSE THE POLARITY, GIRL!
FREE FOOD!
BUILD DIRECT ACTION ACTIVIST NETWORKS OUTSIDE OF NON-PROFITS!
AND MUCH MUCH MORE!
WHOSE CENTER??
Does today’s mainstream LGBT movement make you feel like you’re lost in an alternate reality? Perhaps even another dimension? Do the things groups like the HRC fight for cause you to feel as if you’re going the wrong way backwards through time? Does the thought of straight ally Gavin Newsom’s ascendancy to governor give you vertigo? GAY SHAME has uncovered shocking new truths!
Upon studying the blueprints to the San Francisco LGBT Community Center, GAY SHAME has gathered evidence that it is in fact a portal to the 8th dimension. Cleverly disguised as a community center, familiar evil mega-corporate donors (ranging from Lennar to PG&E to Bechtel) and the San Francisco power elite, have been using their office park portal to suck away all our time, energy and passion. Who does the Center serve? What is the real agenda of the non-profits housed there? Why does the Center claim to have budget troubles, yet is able to re-paint the exterior (ugly) while leaving its youth art programs without art supplies? What could be the purpose of so diabolical a device? Gavin Newsom seeks to move us all Towards a More Perfect Oblivion.
What could possibly undo such vile machinations? After further careful research, GAY SHAME has discovered that this vortex gate SWINGS BOTH WAYS. Join us June 25, 2009 as we converge upon the San Francisco LGBT Community Center to attempt to REVERSE THE POLARITY of this terrifying non-profit office park vortex.
How will we be able to do this? By turning their tricks against them. In Gavin’s infinite hubris, he and the marriage movement attempted to siphon off some of the portal’s stolen energy to dress up their callous ruling class publicity machines as activist struggles. Unwittingly, these foolish attempts have fractured the time-space continuum. 30 years after the White Night Riots and 40 years after Stonewall, radicals from splintering time periods and multiple movements without number shall join forces. This is an epic battle
between their non-profit office furniture and all your favorite movement heroes from various time periods. PICK YOUR TEAMS!
This will be a high-concept anachronistic interpretive dance-off to determine the fate of radical queer politics!

GAY SHAME is a Virus in the System. We are committed to a queer extravaganza that brings direct action to astounding levels of theatricality. We will not be satisfied with a commercialized gay identity that denies the intrinsic links between queer struggle and challenging power. We seek nothing less than a new queer activism that foregrounds race, class, gender and sexuality, to counter the self-serving “values” of gay consumerism and the increasingly hypocritical left. We are dedicated to fighting the rabid assimilationist monster with a devastating mobilization of queer brilliance.
GAY SHAME is a celebration of resistance: All Are Welcome.

Just try posting a political flyer there, and enjoy the bitch-queen rant from the desk droid about how it's a politically "neutral" space, and so your flyer (and probably you) are not "welcome" at the "community" center.
Doesn't stop the Dem clubs from having their meetings there, of course. Nor the Mayor from campaigning there, either. But then, privilege has its privileges.

To all SF Gay Area queers:
So, Gay Shame denounces the SF queer Center,
root and branch.
I am a dues-paying member of the Center;
and a frequent user of its CyberCenter
(free public computers).
When I have a specific complaint about the Center,
I voice it;
sometimes in the SF Bay Times.
For example, a few years ago,
the Center stooooopidly
imposed a censorship program
on the CyberCenter.
I voiced a public complaint,
and other joined in;
and we got rid if it.
I remember Rink fighting against censorship;
and Tommi Avicolli-Mecca standing up for freedom.
Did Gay Shame speak up against censorship, then?
If not, why not?
The center STILL has certain policies which need to be changed.
I would welcome attention to specific policies.
And the Center has a basic problem,
which continually threatens its future:
The new part was built from scratch,
very expensively; so there's big debt, small revenue.
In less hubristic cities,
a queer community center project would start smaller,
by RENTING, not by building.
Instead of erecting a monumental White Elephant,
and desperately trying to find users.
Hey, my hindsight is way cool; gimme a Genius Grant!
Yet, like most SF queers,
I didn't voice these objections way back then,
when foresight could have made a difference.
So, now what? Shall we live with our troubled Center;
trying to reform its policies when we should;
trying to help it survive the Bush Recession?
Or just destroy it?
There's a part of me which shares Gay Shame's mad-hattitude
of
"PISS on all establishments."
And there's another part of me that values
my community
and its flawed center,
warts and all.
For freedom until death,
Tortuga Bi LIBERTY
for SUN
PS, queery to Mary:
What's a
"femininist"
(as distinguished from a "feminist")?
