December will mark 25 years since the Bhopal pesticide plant explosion killed at least 20,000 people to date in one of the worst industrial accidents in history. Bhopal survivors are touring to tell their story.
You are invited to hear the Bhopal survivors' story and panel at two historic Bay Area events:
* Tuesday, May 26, in Berkeley, 6:30 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 1924 Cedar Street; and
* Wednesday, May 27, in Palo Alto, 6:30 pm in Room 105, Building 320 (Geology Corner), Stanford University.
Two second-generation Bhopal survivors, Sarita Malviya and Safreen Khan, and campaigners Rachna Dhingra and Sathyu Sarangi, are touring the U.S. and Canada this April and May to mark the 25 year anniversary by raising awareness about the dangers of pesticide manufacturing and the ongoing tragedy in Bhopal. The Bay Area events are hosted by the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal (ICJB), Pesticide Action Network and more than 20 Bay Area organizations.
The survivors have talked with members of Congress in Washington and residents of Institute, West Virginia, where Bhopal's "sister plant," operated by Bayer CropScience, exploded once again last year, narrowly avoiding a tragedy that could have eclipsed the 1984 disaster in Bhopal. The tour is also raising funds for the advocacy work needed to bring justice to the people of Bhopal and for a toxic free future for us all.
RSVP: I'll be at the Berkley event
RSVP: I'll be at the Palo Alto event
