Stevenson Knoll @ UCSC

The Students of Stevenson College at the University of California Santa Cruz, in conjunction with local area and visiting musicians are proud to announce Rock n’ Roll on the Knoll, an all-day concert fund raiser for the Homeless Services Center of Santa Cruz.

This event will take place on Stevenson Knoll on the campus of UCSC on Sunday May 17, 2009. UCSC students are encouraged to attend an all-day outdoor concert event featuring eight bands that will begin at 12pm.

The lineup of bands…

JC- (San Francisco Rap), God’s Gravy- (Post-Funk Psychedelic Jamcore), Jesus and the Rabbis- (Indie Rock), Nate’s Action Playset- (Santa Cruz Epic Original Rock n’ Roll), Fresh Produce- (UCSC Hip Hop), Cloud 9- (UCSC A Capella), anana’s- (Rock/Reggae), and Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds (Punk, Rock, Reggae).

Local media of all formats are encouraged to attend, enjoy, and especially to cover this event. At the time of this announcement, we are expecting over 1000 people to attend. There is a suggested onsite donation of $5. There will be ‘bring your own clothes’ tie-dye and other fun stuff, and admission to the concert is free.

The Homeless Services Center provides essential services for homeless persons in Santa Cruz County. Both emergency and transitional services and housing are provided to homeless individuals and families throughout the year. Emergency services that are provided are overnight shelter, free meals served twice daily, hygiene facilities, mail and locker services as well as job and housing search assistance. Last year, the HSC served over 130,000 meals! A $1 donation can help provide 30 hot, nutritious meals, and $5 can help provide four people with overnight shelter.

As former Food Service Director of the Homeless Center from 2001 to 2004, I can clearly state that the needy of our community will benefit not only from the direct financial contributions of our generous student attendees, but that the positive impact of this event will definitely be magnified and made most effective by the coverage that our local media can provide. The needs of homeless persons of our community demand our full recognition, and this critical subject deserves the full focus of the public eye.

On behalf of the Homeless Services Center, and all of the great people organizing and contributing to this awesome event, I thank you for your attention.
