Goodbye Fun Spot Skate Park

by cris
On Thursday May 7th, workers were dismantling the skate park known as the Fun Spot by the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. They continued to break it down early Friday morning. When I asked if it was going away for good, one man replied, "Yes".

Although I'm not a skater myself, I always enjoyed walking by and seeing a variety of people, young and not so young, skate there.

Goodbye skate park. I know many people that grew up skating on you!

Thanks for your kind words.

It's not a skate park, it's a bike park. And furthermore, there's still Derby and the other park by the Levee. If it's just moving, I don't really see the issue.

The park has been used by skaters and bikers. The "issue" is that the park is being torn down. That's all. It's not a campaign or a battle cry.
Don't like the news? Go out there and make it yourself.

Thanks Chris,

I think I read that the City is supposed to be building a new bike ramp park closer to Depot Park. But with the lack of budget $$$... I'm not sure where things are at. The Bike Trip folks (who helped with the construction of the Fun Spot site), bikers or others know more....
It'd be good to find out more.

I also liked the central, high visibility location of the bike/skate park. I'll miss seeing the kids there as I pedal by. I think the Fun Spot is where the Monterey Bay Natual History Center is supposed to be built. Maybe the Fed. Gov't could cancel their order of ONE B1 Bomber- then we could pay for.... EVERYTHING!!!

Geez

Its not gone for good that spot was just a temporary location for it. The Fun Spot has been moved to a permanent location at Depot park.

You guys should of auctioned off the ramps and made more money from it and people could of got skate ramps.
