This is a part of the tour for the new book “Women Healing Women: A Model of Hope for Oppressed Women Everywhere”, which recounts the story of Maher, an interfaith center for battered women and children located near Pune, India. Founded in 1997, the project has provided refuge to more than 1350 women, half of whom would likely otherwise have been murdered, committed suicide, or starved to death. The book is rich with poignant firsthand accounts by women and children whose lives have been transformed by the Maher project. The book also explores the larger implications of this pioneering work, with guidance for implementing similar projects elsewhere. Rev. Lowell Brook will introduce the speakers: the extraordinary Sr. Lucy Kurien, the founder of the Maher Project, and the book’s authors Will Keepin and Cynthia Brix. There will be books available to buy, and book-signing, afterwards.
