On April 11th, groups will organize in major cities nationwide to protest the recent economic crisis and the way our government has responded. The corporate state is here and we need to stop it from spreading.

The goal of A New Way Forward is this:

"If our government is to take decisive action to rebuild the economy in a way that protects the public, it will require Americans to fight back against this corruption. We must come out in mass to demand a new way forward or things simply will not change.

It's not enough to patch up the current system. We need to restrict the ways that bankers can lobby and serve in the government. We need to prohibit compensation plans that encourages huge short-term risk. We have to break up any bank that's "too big to fail" so that we can have a functional free market. We need serious reform that fixes the root causes in our political and economic system: excessive influence of banks, dangerous compensation systems, and massive consolidation that does nothing to serve the public interest."

As journalist William Greider said recently on Bill Moyers:

"President Obama and if the Democratic leaders in Congress follow along, he'll put the Democratic Party on the wrong side of history. At this critical moment. What we ought to be seeking, the goal of reform, and government aid, is creating a new financial and banking system, of many more, thousands more, smaller, more diverse, regionally dispersed banks and investment firms. That's first obligation is to serve the economy and serve society. Not the other way around. What the administration's approach may be doing is consecrating too big to fail, for starters. Which, of course, everybody in government denied was the policy until the moment arrived. And secondly, and this will sound extreme to some people, but I came to it reluctantly. I fear what they're doing, not intentionally, but in their design is setting the crown for a corporate state."

Currently, in California, rallies are already planned for the following cities: Eureka, Los Angeles, Mountain View, Santa Cruz, Redding, Sacramento and San Diego. Plans for a San Francisco rally are underway.

Some people online have suggested that the protest dress code be business casual if possible. The reason for this is that we want the message to be seen as legitimate by all citizens, even those who wouldn't typically find themselves as part of a protest movement. I'll be in SF at the Federal Reserve Building at 101 Market Street at 11AM on 4/11 and I'll be wearing slacks and holding a sign.

Why compromise? Why not dawn the truly acceptable regalia of the upper class and wear powdered wigs, knickers and stockings? Haven't you heard ... ? In this decade-blending culture, the 1780's are really making a comeback.

Hilary, thanks for your support! See you there!
The way to make this anti-bank protest a mass movement (and it needs to be one) is to invite eveyrone from as many different milieus as possible. Some will wear business casual, some will wear all black, some will war their union regalia, and some will wear whatever they have because a lot of people don't have that many choices. A mass movemnt must include all people who are against the bailout of the banks and the corporations while workers get layed off and poor epopel starve. It should connect the MILITARY-industrial complex, the war machine, that to the economic downturn. A dress code will distract from the message not add to it. Getting the message out to millllions to come to the dmeonstrations should be the first goal.
I'm glam some people are willing to connect the issues here because the militarization of everyday life, the police state, war, globalization, corporations, banks, money, racism, palestine, iraq, gay rights, soa, free trade, republicans, democrats, and the American Empire all to gether is all tied in together one way or another. As for the idea of hanging an effigy of a banker? I will be bringing one. This SF event is going to gain major media attention! BIG EVENTS ARE AWESOME! CALL KRON4 AND TELL THEM ABOUT THIS EVENT!

TIME TO GET ANGRY

The business attire invitation was not a dress code but a suggestion. Suits are sometimes cheap at Goodwill, and all well-intentioned people are welcome no matter what they wear. To be effective, wouldn't it be good if people employeed in the financial district, labor union, families, etc--would join us.
Please, let's grow the movement

I'm angry, too, AND we need to be strategic.
Good photo and creativity, but I see a $ piñata or an Inc. piñata as more strategic, rather than personalizing our anger by brutalizing a banker's effigy. Let's keep our symbolism non-violent. Outrage is understandable, but violent images will alienate people we need to join us. Please, let's grow the movement and help families and even bank tellers want to join our protests.

You should be tying this in to the larger tax protest movement. There are many reason to not be paying taxes including the government lying to "we the people" who are the rightful owners of the government about the reasons we went to war; the non-ratification of the 16th amendment which is the precursor to illegal tax collection (and according to the IRS's own tax law most citizens are NOT considered applicable for taxation, but most voluntarily file due to fear, and are held liable as a consequence of their voluntary filing); and for these bailouts that are about keeping the citizenry into debt slavery for the financial oligarchs.

If you haven't paid your taxes -- don't! Don't finance this insanity and your and your children's slavery.
