The San Francisco Chapter's Beach Clean-Up Program is one of the most successful of its kind. As a recipient of the Surfrider Foundation's distinguished "Clean Beach Award," this program has set the standard for other Surfrider chapters around the country, and increasingly, the world.
Our success is due largely to the incredible volunteer participation by chapter members and other environmentally conscience individuals and organizations who make caring for Ocean Beach a priority. Although we have come to expect regular turnouts at our monthly beach clean-ups, VOLUNTEERS are our greatest asset; and we need as much assistance as we can get. Please work with us to make Ocean Beach the best it can be, and attend any of the scheduled beach clean-ups listed below.
We have recently partnered with the National Park Service, The Parks Conservancy, The Ocean Beach Foundation, and Burners without Borders, to improve the quality and scope of beach clean-up services at Ocean Beach, particularly in conjunction with the new NPS Bonfire Policy.
Looking to attend a cleanup?
We provide all of the necessary cleanup supplies at our cleanups -- all you have to do is show up!
Be sure to check our events calendar prior to arriving to ensure there are no last-minute changes. Note that rain cancels any planned cleanups.
Want to volunteer as a Surfrider Cleanup Coordinator?
Volunteering to host a cleanup is an easy and great way to have a direct positive impact on our local environment. If you are interested please contact our Beach Clean-up Coordinator, Barbara Lau through our contact form.
Large groups? No problem!
Please just let us know ahead of time so we can be sure to have enough supplies present on the day.
Want to host your own cleanup?
If we can't provide a cleanup coordinator from our group, we can certainly coordinate a handoff of supplies and details for hosting your own cleanup. Get in touch to let us know your plans.
