Tristan and Palestine Solidarity Demonstration, San Francisco, 3/16/09: video
A Solidarity with Tristan Anderson and Palestine demonstration was held on March 16th in front of the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco on Montgomery Street. Hundreds of demonstrators rallied at the consulate and later marched to the intersection of 5th and Market. This video begins there.
(video 14:40)
At the intersection of 5th and Market, demonstrators chanted and gamed with police and traffic by crossing back and forth as the crosswalk sign allowed, lingering at times after the lights changed. Eventually, demonstrators marched up Market Street back toward the Israeli Consulate. At Montgomery, demonstrators moved up the street against traffic and some chairs and garbage cans were tossed into the street. A group ended up back on the sidewalk one block up on Pine Street, then at Kearney and California riot police showed up and attempted to keep demonstrators from crossing the street. People just turned down California and headed back up Montgomery to the Israeli Consulate, where within minutes a gang of police violently attacked demonstrators with clubs. Several people were arrested.
This video is a little higher quality than the original posted last night of the police attack at the Israeli Consulate.
