Solidarity demo for Tristan Anderson

The protest started in the late afternoon outside the Israeli consulate on Montgomery Street near the financial district. At this point, demonstrators against Israeli actions outnumbered a pro-Israel counter-protest across the street by at least 5 to 1.

At about 5 pm the protesters started to march, under a light rain, heading for Market Street and turning West. At the intersection of Market and 5th, the activists blocked rush-hour traffic and held the intersection -- giving brief speeches, dancing, silk-screening patches -- until about 6:30.

Dee Allen leads a chant of "No Gods, No Masters; No Masters, No Slaves," reminding that anarchists don't support religions or states.

Said activist Soul, "Tristan and Gaby have already succeeded in bringing this terrible issue [of the occupation] to the forefront."

At that point, some people moved to the sidewalk while others stood around on the side street as bus traffic resumed on Market. Some protesters called for the march to continue, and about 100 headed off east on Market while the remaining 2/3 of the crowd dispersed.

After marching peacefully on a few blocks on Market with police not attempting to stop them, the protesters headed north on Montgomery, back toward the consulate.

While this reporter left at that time, others say the atmosphere grew more tense, an activist's dog broke loose, at which point some people started running. The small remaining group of protesters was charged by police, a few were reportedly hit with batons, and several (number not yet determined) were arrested on unknown charges.
