Fearless Leader and Servant of the People

It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Richard Aoki, due to complications from longstanding medical problems, passed away on March 15, 2009.

Born on November 20, 1938, Richard was a righteous fighter and a warrior in the truest sense – he dedicated his life to his beliefs and the struggle for human rights. He was a field marshal in the Black Panther Party, a founding member of the Asian American Political Alliance, a leader in the Third World Liberation Front Strike at UC Berkeley, co-ordinator for the first Asian American Studies program at UC Berkeley, an advisor for Asians for Job Opportunities, a counselor, instructor and administrator at Merritt and Alameda Colleges .

We will remember him for the personal impact he made on our lives and the social impact he made on the community movements of people of all colors:

“…Based on my experience, I’ve seen where unity amongst the races has yielded positive results. I don’t see any other way for people to gain freedom, justice, and equality here except by being internationalist.” – Richard Aoki

Memorial arrangements are pending and information will be available at a later date.

Sincerely,

Harvey Dong

Richard Aoki Commemorative Committee.

by A,
My condolences to family and friends but it is so gross when people (Cesar Cruz) center the death of an elder around themselves, posting pictures of them posing with the one that passed. Shame on you.

I HAVE ON MY WALL A PICTURE OF ME, SHACKA AT THININ AND RICHARD STANDING TOGETHER AT LIL BOBBY HUTTON PARK
AT A SPEAK OUT CALLED 'A DAY OF WARRIORS'. (front page sfBAYVIEW-august 2002) And I knew it would have been in bad taste to make a story out of it and submit it. Soldiers just don't do that. But if you think what cezar cruz did is somehow distateful, then just watch all the personalities hit the mike (at his up coming memoriam)with like depictions about how they once spoke with RICHARD AOKI and blah blah blah bla.

Just watch those who have never sacrificed anything but mouth air, who never busted a grape, and who pimp off the sacrifices of the struuggle, stand at his honorarium speaking words of wisdom (or showmanship) while the largest part of former political prisoners and warriors are sitting in the audience humbled out. This is somewhat of what happenened at the 40th anniversay of the BPP. They called it a PANEL to discuss political prisoners, and there wasn't one genuine political prisoner siteth there with the personalities. In fact there were so many baaad motherfuckers in the audience from across the U.S. that you cut almost cut the tension with a flaming torch. When Pam Hannah from the BLACK LIBERATION ARMY took the microphone, TRYING TO WARN ABOUT THE COMING INDICTMENTS OF FORMER SOLDIERS she was cut off by someone who didn't have the faintest idea of who this bad woman was.
