Bay Area Community Exchange Organizing Meeting
Wed, March 18 from 7-9pmish
Muddy Waters (in back), 521 Valencia SF
near 16th St. Mission BART
Bay Area Community Exchange is a start-up group that is working towards creating a more just, sustainable and democratically run means of economic exchange (local currency, barter network, etc). This is our 3rd meeting. To get involved and learn about future meetings subscribe to sfbacommunityexchange-subscribe [at] yahoogroups.com or jump on our online discussion group at http://bayareacommunityexchange.ning.com
Reasons for developing a local means of exchange:
-community control over and reflection of community values in economic system
-the collapsing economy and the associated rise of poverty
-development of stronger community relations
-more environmentally sound production of goods and reduced energy use for distribution
-less money going to the government's wars
-supports local workers and withdraws support for exploitation of workers abroad
-to enjoy life more, less time working at a desk job and more time gardening, taking care of family, etc.
-greater self and community sufficiency as peak oil becomes a challenge...
