Councilwoman Beiers continues discussing homeless issues raised at a prior meeting a week ago around the new Downtown Ordinance changes passed at City Council on 2-10 and due to go into effect in a month.
These included expanding the "Forbidden Zones" where peaceful sparechanging, political tabling, sitting, and street performing are banned, banning sitting on a bench (one of the few remaining) for more than an hour, and making three infractions a misdemeanor.
Beiers will also be looking at issues raised and since ignored in the historic Homeless Issues Task Force recommendations, presented in 2000 at a cost of $10,000 after a year of work.
The report can be found at http://www.cabinc.org/Research/HTFFinalReport.htm .
Beiers earlier discussion can be found at http://www.radiolibre.org/brb/brb090208.mp3 & http://www.radiolibre.org/brb/brb090215.mp3 (fast forward towards the last 1/4 of the audio file).
Organized by HRO (the Human Rights Organization) and HUFF (Homeless United for Friendship & Freedom), the meeting is open to anyone.
If you can't afford tea, we'll buy it for you.
