Oakland Critical Mass, 2/6/08: photos
Not too long after police had finally cleared out from Frank Ogawa Plaza following the March of Stolen Lives, Oakland Critical Mass headed off for it's first-Friday-of-the-month ride. This time, through downtown and around Lake Merritt, ending up at Art Murmur on Telegraph.

To anyone not in the USA: This is downtown Oakland, a major city of the 4th largest metropolitan area in the US, still an industrialized country, and one of a handful of leading seaport cities in the US. The condition of the streets is so poor that you would think you were in an underdeveloped country. Sometimes the mundane things highlight the reverse priorities in this country: Putting guns before butter at home and abroad so as to maximize profits of the capitalist class. To put an end to police brutality and all other attacks on the workingclass, as well as to have something so fundamental as frequently paved roads, we need a serious labor movement capable of organizing a national general strike to put an end to the private profit system. To the photographers for all events, not only highlight the actual event but also the surrounding environment, such as the condition of the roads and houses, the closed shops everywhere, and the like. The people of the world need to see that this is a very backward country; we do not even have universal healthcare as exists in the rest of the industralized world, and we still have the death penalty, abolished in Europe, Mexico and much of the rest of the world.
nice to see not too many cops in photos.those cops are provoking people! the usa is indeed baxckward.the dirty technology gives illusion of modernity and rational civilization ,but its not sane.its completely backward.people do not know about balance. ironically ,the bicycle itself IS an example of being in ''balance'' in order to ride it. also ,they dont like phelps inhaling plant green, but cyclists must breath proven toxic fumes from autos.causing health damage and loss of function.the usa is a poison romoter.thatswhy climate doesent give us RAIN anymore! no water no life.usa must face up wake up from alcoholic drunken slumber addiction no other choice
