Enough is Enough! March of Stolen Lives, Oakland, 2/6/09: video

by dave id
In response to the murder of Oscar Grant and others who have been killed by unaccountable police in the Bay Area and across the U.S., the Enough is Enough! March of Stolen Lives was called to start at Frank Ogawa Plaza on February 6th. Many family members who have lost loved ones were present and some spoke of their grief and anger and desire for justice. Video clips from the march and at the plaza afterwards are assembled here.

Not sure if it was because the cops were nervous with Mehserle having been released Friday afternoon, or a result of some new tactic to give police more authority to make arrests, or simply because they were just itching to rile the crowd up into a direct confrontation, but as the crowd was peaceably beginning to disperse on its own, several cops surrounded one demonstrator with a bandana over his face and demanded that he remove it. One cop read from a printout of some law or ordinance that was supposedly relevant. Other demonstrators moved in to defend him, and after a few tense minutes the cops backed off and allowed the person with the bandana to leave.
