Did you know that Siberia’s Lake Baikal holds one-fifth of the world’s freshwater? Come find out what Russian NGOs are doing to protect the world’s oldest and largest freshwater lake. Located in the Siberian Republic of Buryatia, Lake Baikal holds one-fifth of the world’s freshwater. Melissa Prager, Aline Prentice, and Francis Macy of Berkeley’s Center for Safe Energy will present a slideshow of the magnificent ecosystem of the Baikal region and explain the hardships and success stories of the environmental NGOs who work to protect it. You will also find out how you, as a Bay Area resident are directly connected to this community and will learn about opportunities of how you can participate in protecting the region and meet directly with the native Buryats of the region.
