by Lee White
The Alameda County district attorney said it would take two weeks to complete an investigation into the shooting death of Oscar Grant by a BART cop. But it took police in East Palo Alto only 24 hours to make an arrest in an accidental shooting that happened there. What's up with that?

(01-10) 13:10 PST EAST PALO ALTO, CA (AP) --

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the accidental shooting of a 2-year-old boy, police said.

East Palo Alto Police Detective Angel Sanchez said Sergio Sanchez turned himself in Friday.

The toddler was fatally shot in the chest by his 12-year-old cousin, who had found the rifle in the garage. Sergio Sanchez owned the rifle.

Authorities said the boy's family had asked Sergio Sanchez — a family friend who was staying at the home — to get rid of the weapon.

A one-time deported felon, Sergio Sanchez was arrested for storing a firearm in a place accessible by children. He was also arrested for being a felon in possession of firearm and violating probation.

The toddler, Andrew Grewe, died at the hospital shortly before midnight Thursday. Authorities have not released the name of the 12-year-old boy.
