Date:
Sunday, January 04, 2009
Time:
12:00 PM
-
4:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Location Details:
Powell and Market, San Francisco
The US/Israel Genocide Operation continues in Gaza, courtesy American tax dollars to the tune of $15 million a day, $6 billion a year, while we have no housing, education, healthcare or pensions. Come to this protest of the theft our tax dollars and of genocide promoted by 100% of the Democratic and Republican elected representatives at all levels of government to maximize the profits of the capitalist class, the primary reason the war machine exists. Barack Obama is just as much pro-Israel as is George Bush and that has been true of every Democrat and Republican president from Harry Truman to Obama. If you want peace, you must vote for peace, namely Green Party or Peace & Freedom Party. This outrage has gone on for 61 years and must end now if we are to have a future.

I am not part of AROC but have great respect for their work.
AROC (Arab Resource and Organizing Center) is a grassroots organization based in SF that works in the Arab/Arab American community and with other communities and organizations toward justice, political education, community organizing, etc. They work with youth, assist the community with much needed legal assistance and help lead the mobilizations regarding Arab/Arab American issues. They are made up of organizers, activists (seasoned and new), youth, religious communities, etc...
Btw, I think there might be some incorrect information about today. I do not think there is a protest in SF this afternoon (Sunday) put out by AROC. They are calling for one tomorrow, Monday. See their website.
It is important to remember that when there are assaults against specific communities that those communities are the ones we must look to for leadership. THAT is what being an ally is really about.
Peace and justice for Palestine!

Gaza Action, a coalition of Arab, Muslim, Jewish, and allied anti-occupation groups, is organizing a response to the ground invasion of Gaza. We invite your organization to co-sponsor and to attend the mass mobilization planned for Monday.
In the last week Israel has shown the brutality of its illegal war against the people of Palestine. And we have witnessed the US government's unwavering support for these crimes. It is up to us to stop them. By targeting business a usual in San Francisco we up the social cost war-makers must consider when planning these assaults. By targeting the Congressional leadership based in San Francisco we send a clear message: "End US support for Israel. Stop the $3 billion in yearly military aid to Israel. End the assault, end the siege, and end the occupation."
