The Only Alternative: Christian Nonviolent Peacemakers in America
By John Malkin and Alan Nelson
Local journalist, author (Sounds of Freedom) and radio host John Malkin explores the spiritually active practice of compassionate nonviolence in his new book, The Only Alternative, written with co-author Alan Nelson. The book takes us on a journey through the lives of seven courageous American peacemakers—including Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dorothy Day—who have embodied Christian nonviolence and dedicated their lives to addressing suffering.
This book is a call for revolution in a way that starts from the inside out. Please join us for a reading, discussion, signing, and Q&A.

Some homeless advocates have been banned from the Bookshop Coonerty. Some of us opposed Supervisor Neal Coonerty's repressive Downtown Ordinances (which he passed the year after he was Mayor in 1994) and councilmember Ryan Coonerty's repressive Ban on Assemblies in Parking Lots and pro-Sleeping Ban stance. In response we were "banned for life".
John Malkin called me yesterday and expressed a willingness to hold a second public presentation to which the banned activists (and presumably everyone else) would be invited.
Thanks, John.
Before you buy at the Bookshop, ask if the owners still support the anti-homeless laws.

While I haven't been formally banned, I refuse to step foot in Bookshop Santa Cruz (to my great regret, as I support local bookstores and love books and used to spend quite a bit of time and money there) as long as many of my activist friends and associates are banned, based on invalid premises and unjust accusations whose logic, if extended, would render all protest suspect. I'm not demanding that anyone else follow my lead, this is just my own personal choice.
I would be happy to attend a separate event, and appreciate John's willingness to hold one.

Thanks! As one that was banned, I thank you too. I hope to be able to make it and enjoy your presentation. Not many people would go to such lengths of accommodation. Peace
