Possible Emergency Court Hearing Tomorrow (Dec 20 Solidarity with Greek Uprising action)

by legal team member
Our first step was to call attention to police violence. Our second is to battle the violence of the court system and get our people out. Read on to find out more.
Second legal update on the folks arrested during the Greek Uprising Solidarity Action on Dec. 20

*** Who's in, who's out ***

Justin E. was released on Monday, Dec. 21, and his charges were dismissed. Ernesto T. did not have a court appearance and he is still being held.

We were able to locate the person who was injured, thanks to all who helped us find him! His name is Terry G. and he has a very bad head injury from being kicked in the head (bad enough they had to hospitalize him the first night he was in). He is facing a felony charge as a result of his violent arrest, as well as the misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. His bail is $52,000. He is glad to know that there are people out there supporting him.

*** Possible emergency court support ***

No one is *scheduled* for tomorrow, but if they don't go to court tomorrow, they will have been held as long or longer than the limits in California allow. Our attorneys are looking into an emergency petition for their release, based on this delay. If this happens, we want everyone down to the courtroom tomorrow! We'll send out a new update if we get any more information about this, so check back late tonight and early tomorrow morning for more information.

*** Video or photo evidence ***

We said it before and we'll say it again: do you have video or photo coverage of the arrests or of police activity? If so, contact the legal team! We are going to want it. Our hotline number is 415-864-2430.

Let's keep the pressure on to get our people out!!

I found a collection of photos on Flickr.com

Search for San Francisco Greek Protest, or a combination of similar keywords.

I saw some where there is a police officer choking a young man during an arrest.

hmm - a description on SFist said that they really reacted when the man started to climb on a sign, and I guess you can see that here. Until that point, it looks like everyone is just walking and waving banners. At least it shows a somewhat calm entry into the mall (walking not running) and nothing is thrown. There was a report in the Chronicle of a 'food fight', but apparently this was security tipping over the the soup?
