Legal update from Dec. 20 Greek Uprising Solidarity Action, SF

by legal team member
Latest update on folks arrested during the December 20 activities in downtown SF. At least one court date Monday Dec. 21, be there!
*** Who's in, who's out ***

Three folks who were arrested are out, and they have their first court dates in late January or early February. They are facing various misdemeanor charges ranging from misdemeanor vandalism to resisting arrest. We'll know whether those charges are reduced, during those court appearances.

Two other people, Ernesto T. and Justin E., are still in custody.

Ernesto is facing felony vandalism and resisting arrest, with total bail of $28,000. He does not have a court date, but we are hoping that they will bring him to court tomorrow. Our lawyer will be working to get him released on his own recognizance (that is, by signing an agreement to appear in court), but we can't, people might think about whether they can offer some monetary support for bail or bond. Justin E. has two misdemeanors for a total bail of $8,000. We are very hopeful that he will be released on his own recognizance.

Both of them are in good spirits (considering where they are spending the night).

We have one person who was injured and taken to the hospital for a head injury. We don't have his name, but he has been brought back from the hospital and is again in custody. He was arrested at Westfield Mall at about 6:30 p.m.. If anyone does know his name, please *don't* post it to email or indybay, but please *do* notify the legal team. Our hotline number is 415-864-2430.

*** Video or photo evidence ***

Do you have video or photo coverage of the arrests or of police activity? If so, contact the legal team! We are going to want it. Once again, our hotline number is 415-864-2430.

*** Court support ***

Justin T. is scheduled for a bail hearing tomorrow morning. Folks that want to support him should go to room 101 and look on the general calendar posted on the wall by the door, to find out whether he will be seen and where. We don't know for sure if Ernesto E. will be seen tomorrow. Again, to find out where his hearing will be, go to room 101 and check the calendar.

If you go to court, show up at 850 Bryant Street (between 6th and 7th Streets) at 9:00 a.m. and be prepared to wait. It's probably a good idea to wear "court clothes" and act respectable unless our folks in jail let us know otherwise. They'll probably check your id, and of course leave cameras and recording devices elsewhere, as they won't let you into the courtroom with them.

Hope to see you all there!

I'm not on the legal team, but i feel it is important to pack the courtroom. And by the way, it is more important to pack the courtroom wearing whatever you have to wear, than worrying about if you have nice "court clothes" and not go.

Does anybody have any news on the legal statuses of the arrestees? Information is running dry. We can't leave these people alone in the clutches of the legal system -- there's absolutely nothing good or fun about it.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
