Conflict and Health in Iraq: Ethical Obligations to the People of Iraq
The presentation will touch on the recent history of Iraq from the point of view of public health and the consequences of the internal and external conflicts that have produced a man-made health disaster of enormous magnitude. Dr. Al-Delaimy will present his personal experiences and literature documenting the events.
Dr. Al-Delaimy completed his medical and public health training in Baghdad, where he practiced as a physician. He has a PhD in Epidemiology from Otaqo University in New Zealand. He worked with the World Health Organization and Harvard University prior to his current position as an Associate Professor at the UCSD School of Medicine. Involved in public health advocacy for the last 10 years, Dr. Al-Delaimy is considered an international expert on the topic of the Iraqi healthcare system.
