Come and enjoy your shopping by purchasing fair trade and locally made items, as well as opportunities to re-think gift-giving. Give a cow to a family in Uganda in the name of your loved one (the gift that really keeps on giving). Give a hygiene kit, or vaccinations to children in Central America. Buy soaps made by a women's group in Chicago. Purchase handmade holiday cards from children in Asia, or a handmade beaded necklace from women in Africa. Enjoy the homemade goodies and treats - both to eat while shopping and wrapped as a treat to take home to the family or use for your next gathering.
The Resource Center is participating in this Fair Trade market with gift items produced in fair trade conditions in Nicaragua, Palestine and elsewhere, and local crafts. Give gifts that sustain artisans and farmers in developing countries, and gifts that sustain the environment. Some examples: RCNV Palestinian Olive Oil (with new products!), Nicaraguan weaving co-op handbags and backpacks, Heifer Interntional, Bead for Life (Africa), Women’s Homeless Garden Project, eating and serving ware from Santa Cruz potters and Nicaraguan fair trade potters, local knits, weavings, jewelry. Contact 426-2010.
