Don't miss Gema y Pavel's first show in the Bay Area and thier amazing fusion of Afro-cuban trova, nu-jazz, flamenco y "filin progresivo"....

The duo Gema & Pavel was born in La Habana in July of 1990, around the figure of the mythical cuban composer Marta Valdes. The Gema & Pavel duo has collected a loyal following, including some of Cuba's leading musicians. Among them the cuban singer/composer Silvio Rodriguez, who has said that they are an exception to the current musical creative drought.
They have recorded music for films, and have participated in recordings and shows of well known artists such as Ketama, Pedro Guerra and La Union, who have been glad to follow the rich fusion of rhythms and cultural influences achieved by Gema & Pavel. They have also shared concerts with renowned artists such as Ketama, Alejandro Sanz, Tito Puente, Pablo Milanes, Martirio, Marta Valdes, Carlos Cano, Pedro Guerra and Javier Ruibal, among many others.
In 2003 Gema & Pavel published their fourth album, the double CD "Art Bembe", in which they combine Cuban and World music with elements of Flamenco and Jazz. The premiere, in January 2004, took place in the Calle 54 club in Madrid, and was a resounding success. The concerts and TV and radio shows earned them excellent reviews throughout. One of such reviews has called them "mercilessly good."
