Description: A talk and book signing by Fr. John Dear, SJ; introduced by Fr. Louie Vitale, OFM.
Fr. John Dear is a Jesuit priest, pastor, peace activist, organizer, lecturer, retreat leader, and the author/editor of 25 books on peace and justice. A longtime practitioner and teacher of nonviolence, he has written hundreds of articles and given hundreds of talks on this subject. Dear has been arrested more than 75 times in acts of nonviolent civil disobedience for peace and has organized hundreds of demonstrations against war and nuclear weapons at military bases across the country. His work for peace has taken him to Latin America, the Middle East, and Northern Ireland. He holds two master's degrees in theology from the Graduate Theological Union and has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a regular columnist for the National Catholic Reporter, an independent weekly publication.
