Fun Next to the Farmer's Market Today!
The smiling struggle to keep Santa Cruz merry will continue at Parking Lot #4 today, around the usual time (3:30 PM) with food, fun, and fascist oversight. Bring your frisbees and friends.
In order to make sure the SCPD stays safe and has full employment in these hard economic times, the Bluebelly Buddy Brigade will be joining activists and musicians at the site of the Drum Circle and this Wednesday.
We expect some to offer an informal educational "Know Your Rights" forum to counter last Wednesday's SCPD "No to Your Rights" campaign as a part of today's fun frolic next to the Farmer's Market.
Tour high points will include:
+++ the spot Wes Modes was tackled from the rear without warning by playful police officers, who came down 20-30 strong last week to join in the general jubilation,
+++ the historic stretch of the forbidden green mesh fence where Officer "Always on Duty" Albert tagged Food Not Bombs foodserver Jack Russ
+++ educational extras from Sgt. "Parking Lot Patrolguy" Harms giving friendly advice on how to avoid the menace of prowling pot smokers, dissident drummers, and other dangers of Parking Lot #4
+++ a possible Pilgrimage of Gratitude to the front of Mayor "Catch Me if You Can" Coonerty's Bookshop Santa Cruz, who gave us the 15-minute law that ended 10 years of Drum Circle Terror.
Check with local activists to be appointed an official "Vehicle Retriver" to make you "legal" under Mayor Coonerty's 15-Minute Trespass Law. Those bringing their own bikes will be given special mention in any prizes given out later.
Jumbogumbo Joe Schultz has agreed to lift a ladle so be sure to belly up to the soup bucket for a swig of his tasty brew.
Wildside Whitney will be recruiting victims for her "Police Parking Lot" art project.
Community members are invited to bring frisbees, hackeysacks, and other criminal equipment to demonstrate to the next generation what is NOT allowed downtown under Supervisor Neal Coonerty (formerly mayor Coonerty)'s Downtown Ordinances . Help turn impressionable youth away from a life of crime.
Come one, come all.
Special bonus: Police may offer a special one-time only teargassing treat as part of their new "budget-be damned" "beat back the bums" anti-terrorist training. You may also be offered an opportunity to sample their new "slim and simple" billyclubs, which got a brief workout last week in thepolice-sponsored closing off of Cathcart St.
See you there.

I've heard talk of a group of drummers moving elsewhere today, out of fear of the fascist's army distasteful repression techniques.
Let me discourage them from such concessions and complacencies.
The police have a pestering ambition to cleanse downtown of all non-commercial activities, and the drum circle falls into that category. By acquiescing to the demands of the local police, we bolster their already disgustingly inflated egos, which gives way to the shutting down of more independent, anti-capitalistic, and counter-cultural projects and gatherings.
This war is everywhere. This drum-circle "crackdown" is just a microcosm of a larger issue in which the cops believe that they only have to intimidate us enough and our resolve will break. I urge everyone to come to the market today in a show of resistance to the police scare tactics and with a firm determination to take back free space in a city that values private property and commerce more than the people who make their lives here.
We will attend, with passionate anger in our hearts and fierce pounding in our drumbeats.
This is a call to the farmer's market drummers, to the Raging Grannies, to any available members of Trash Orchestra, and to you, to add to the presence that will appear at this drum circle today at 3:30. Our hope for keeping this space is bleak if we make a display of compliance, so please consider your actions.
