Being John Brown is an antiracist action/discussion group organized to resist racism in our community.

With the intention to provoke conversations about race and racism, we show Spike Lee's 2000 film 'Bamboozled,' a dense satire on show biz and black culture, commodification and appropriation, racism and violence, stereotypes and typecasting. Full of cameos and historical reference, it's a film designed to provoke a response.

For anyone unfamiliar with the minstrel shows as but one example of racist conditioning through entertainment, for those who might've been made uncomfortable by Spike Lee's confrontational style, for those who saw this film back when it came out and haven't had a repeat viewing, for those who'll be okay if the joke is on you once or twice...

we invite you to enjoy...
BAMBOOZLED.

Friday September 19th at 8PM on the Westside
