This monthly meeting of Being John Brown (BJB) we'll reportback from the Coalition's Listening and Documentation Sessions held county-wide over the summer, hear the story of the Citizens Police Review Board as part of local history, discuss our anti-racist film series, plan meetings actions and events for the fall, and more. Join us to create a space dedicated to mutual aid and accountability in the fight against racism.
About the group:
John Brown opposed slavery with militant resistance. Learning from this example, we discuss antiracism in our own lives, work, and communities. We share strategies for confronting racism and the behaviors and institutions that allow it to continue to derail our movements and divide our communities. I think that to build genuine solidarity, white people can and should discuss race and racism amongst white people--honestly and often. What do you think?
All are welcome, but the discussion will be focused on the experiences of white-skinned people. Bring a willingness to listen and a readiness to confront the racism within and in all the places we go.
