EYEWITNESS LOUISIANA: POST-KATRINA, IN THE FACE OF GUSTAV
Three years after Hurricane Katrina, the people of Louisiana narrowly escaped another natural disaster. But the man-made disaster continues beyond the storms: the failure to sufficienty strengthen the levees; tens of thousands of displaced residents who have not been able to return due to lack of housing; the massive gentrification scheme creating immense corporate profits at the expense of the African American working class -- the state now has 46,000 fewer Black voters. Hurricane Katrina revealed the collosal failure of the capitalist state to provide for the people. After the horrific racist repression during the last storm, this week the state sent 50,000 National Guard soldiers to enforce their evacuation plan and hunt down "looters." Hear from PSL Presidential candidate Gloria La Riva and Richard Becker, who traveled across Louisiana witnessing conditions before and after the storm hit.
EYEWITNESS DNC & RNC
The two parties of big business have created massive media spectacles around their national conventions, making it almost impossible to ignore their corporate-sponsored pep rallies. Meanwhile, protests outside the conventions have been repressed by the cops and ignored by the media. Hear from PSL activists who took part in the protests outside the Democratic and Republican conventions and find out the stories that the mainstream media left out.
