Large arrest scene at DNC?
During the evening of Monday, August 25th, 2008, an activity announced on the weekly schedule of DNC response was an evening of meeting democratic delegates at their hotels. A little over an hour ago, AP wires started announcing that 50 protesters were trapped between two police lines. The Denver Post set up a live camera, (where the situation is still quite active at 7:30pacific time ). For the past half hour, it has shown a line of police next to a very large crowd of far more than 50 people.

The live cam shows that it is dark, but a photo at the Post site shows a circle of protesters surrounded during daylight, so this process has been ongoing for a while. http://www.denverpost.com/politicswestnews/ci_10301186
Loud protest chants (with voices of hundreds rather than dozens of people) suggest that the people milling around in the courtyard are not all delegate or passerby onlookers, but a crowd of supporters. The chants of 'let them go' suggests that they are watching a smaller group to the upper right in the screen be arrested.
The Denver Post has written that protesters were sprayed with a chemical.
As more reliable details trickle in, please append this information as comments or replace this link in the indybay wire.

Some media is turning up on youtube (which seems to have the best coverage of the DNC so far, if you can filter through it).
This film shows the police pre-emptively blocking a group of several hundred from entering the downtown Denver area after leaving Civic Center park. This should be on Bannock street, where many protesters will go to 15th and Court st. People on the sidewalk exclaim that they see officers preparing to use gas and fire pepper spray

Retiree, 80, gets caught in protest
DOWNTOWN — Police mistook an 80-year-old man as an anarchist Monday night while he walked from the Denver library to his bus stop.
Of medium height and an aging frame, Cecil Bethea became trapped in a tide of protesters near Civic Center and was then detained by police.
Briefcase in hand, the elderly man stood and smoked a cigarette with a slight frown, as police fired pepper spray into the chaos of young anarchists surrounding him.
"Suddenly there was a police barricade on all four sides. I stood there and didn't know what to do," said the retired men's suits salesman. "I did not carry a sign and was not shouting, but just stood there and said nothing."
Two police officers drew Bethea from the crowd with his hands tied behind his back and searched him extensively because they were concerned with the content of his briefcase.
"It was ridiculous how they handled me. You would have thought I was a mass murderer or something," he said.
