The nation is watching San Francisco. Come to learn more about:

* Changes proposed by Mayor Gavin Newsom to protocols regarding
immigrant youth.

* A presentation on how San Francisco-based groups are responding to
this political challenge.

* Ideas for how you can help defend immigrant youth and families and
the Sanctuary Ordinance

Background:

Recently, San Francisco's Sanctuary Ordinance has come under attack
after media reporters criticized San Francisco's policy of equal
treatment for immigrant children and youth in the juvenile justice
system. The media scandalized policies which sought to reunite
immigrant children and youth with their families urging that they should
instead be turned over to federal authorities.

As a result Mayor Gavin Newsom has declared his intention to change San
Francisco protocols in regard to immigrant children and youth, making
them more vulnerable to Immigrant and Custom Enforcement (ICE) detention
and deportation. In response, immigrants' and youth rights
organizations have asked the Mayor to uphold San Francisco's
Sanctuary Ordinance and not succumb to anti-immigrant pressure and
hysteria.
