Crunch Time for Cindy Sheehan: Help Get her On the Ballot!
Cindy Sheehan Needs Your Help!
According to her sister, Dede, 3000 petition signatures are needed by 3 pm this Friday!
According to her sister, Dede, 3000 petition signatures are needed by 3 pm this Friday!
Cindy Sheehan is running for Congress in San Francisco (California's District 8).
It has not been easy collecting signatures to put Cindy Sheehan on the ballot.
San Francisco is a city of commuters. Many working people cannot or do not live in the downtown district. The poorest residents are seldom registered, or are not interested in voting.
The toughest brag, 'Can't vote! I'm a felon!"
(At least these individuals have a touching awareness of what rights they have lost.)
Many know who Cindy Sheehan is but do not understand why she is running. I blame the establishment media for this.
Some people think getting Cindy on the ballot is a shoe-in-- not true-- and I blame the alternative media for this.
The most deplorable group of people understand the stakes, but can't be bothered. Perhaps like me, they walk down the street with ear buds pretending they can't hear anything like 'Please help!"
Sigh.
Today, Cindy's sister Dede sent out a new plea for help.
She wrote:
We need your help. Of the 10898 signatures we turned in last tuesday close to 5,000 were invalidated.
We need 1694 additional valid signatures to get Cindy on the ballot and we need to accomplish this huge task by 3pm this friday. In order to cover another outrageous invalidation rate we need to collect 3,000 signatures.
....
If you have either the old In Lieu of Filing Petitions or the Old
Nomination Petition please come in and get the new Supplemental Nomination Petitions. The old petitions will not be accepted by the Department of Elections.
The goal is within our grasp...we can't let it slip through our
hands......
Please call Dede at 415-621-5027 and let us know WHEN you can help.

it is critical that people pick up the latest supplemental petitions.
The downloadable ones at Cindy's website this evening will not do.

The map of the 8th Congressional District is below:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:United_States_House_of_Representatives%2C_California_District_8.png
It stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the SF Bay, and includes the Richomnd District, the Marina and all of the East side to and including Bayview Hunters Point. In fact, it is just about all of San Francisco except the Sunset District.
FIRST: THOSE OF YOU WITH MONEY, RUN TO CINDY'S HEADQUARTERS TODAY at 1260 Mission Street near 9th Street (Civic Center Metro/BART). To make up for lack of signatures, money is accepted as the signatures are in lieu of payment. DO NOT WAIT FOR SOMEBODY ELSE; YOU ARE IT.
SECOND:The sites for petitioning are every commerical area in every neighborhood except the Sunset District. We do not live downtown. For daytime on weekdays, colleges, bus stops, and hospitals are probably the best. In the early evening, all shopping districts are good. There are churches that have early evening services. ALL OF CLEMENT STREET AND ALL OF GEARY STREET are good. Any street where there are colleges, shops, post offices, hospitals, movie theaters, bus stops, train stops and churches are good. In particular, go to every supermarket, every post office, every movie theater and every hospital and clinic The post office at Fillmore near Geary, the Safeway at Webster near Fillmore, the Kabuki at Post and Fillmore are all good. ALL OF FILLMORE AND ALL OF HAIGHT STREETS ARE GOOD. The AMC on Van Ness at O'Farrell is good since it has lots of screens. Polk and California is a required corner, as is Cala Supermarket at Hyde and California, Whole Foods at Franklin and California. ALL OF POLK STREET IS GOOD.. ALL OF 24TH STREET IS GOOD. There is a shopping center at Bay and Mason. City College and San Francisco State College are good; just ask them their ZIP code. Kaiser Hospital, Mt. Zion Hospital, San Francisco General Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, UC Medical Center are all good places. Kaiser's clinic on Geary near O'Farrell is probably the best. The Castro is good from Market to 18th Streets. EVERY MUNI METRO STATION AND EVERY BART STATION IN SAN FRANCISCO IS GOOD AT LEAST 16 HOURS A DAY.

YOUR PITCH SHOULD BE: We need signatures in lieu of paying the high filing fee to get on the ballot. This is not an endorsement; it is just to get on the ballot. Everybody should have the right to run for office without paying a high fee in a democracy. (There is no need or time to go into a long-winded explanation of Pelosi's abysmal record. Just focus on our democratic right to run for office.)
IF YOU DO NOT GET AT LEAST ONE SIGNATURE EVERY FIVE MINUTES, MOVE TO ANOTHER SPOT.
More sites are:
Safeway supermarkets:
1. 5290 Diamond Heights Blvd.
2. 145 Jackson (at Battery)
3. 850 La Playa (near the Beach, at Fulton, end of 38 Geary and 5 Fulton lines. If you take the 38 Geary, walk down the hill past the Cliff House to Fulton and walk a half block on Fulton, it is to your left by the new condominiums and is very busy all the time. You can also go inside and get hot soup, etc.)
4. 15 Marina Blvd (probably not the best)
5. 2020 Market (at Duboce/Church, park yourself there 24 hours a day)
6. 4950 Mission Street
7. 1335 Webster (at Fillmore, good location)
8. 2300 16th Street (good location)
LAW SCHOOLS
1. Hastings Law School at Hyde and McAllister (and their housing on McAllister near 7th Street)
2. University of San Francisco Law School and generally at Fulton and Stanyan
3. Golden Gate University Law School and generally at Mission near First Street-12 noon lunchtime is probably best.
SWIMMING POOLS:
The Rossi Pool at Arguello and Anza (near Geary) is open at 5:45 AM. on WEEKDAYS and STAYS OPEN UNTIL 9:30 P.M. PARK YOURSELF AT THE ROSSI POOL. If it gets a little slow, walk north to CLEMENT STREET, ONE BLOCK NORTH OF GEARY, AND WALK ON CLEMENT STREET GATHERING SIGNATURES. There are enough American citizens there.
St. Mary's Hospital at Stanyan and Fulton
GOOD SPOTS ON GEARY:
House of Bagels at Presidio
Russian Bakery (Moscow & Tbilisi Bakery) at 21st Avenue and the surrounding shopping area on Geary
Boudin Bakery at 10th Avenue

unless a person is currently on parole or probation (or in prison), a past conviction for a felony does not restrict a persons right to vote in California. We really should do more education about this.
All of San Francisco, except the Sunset District - is in the 8th Congressional District. 1.) Pick Up the Supplemental Nomination Papers at 1260 Mission Street ASAP!
2.) Hit the bricks! Ride MUNI, walk the Richmond Dist., walk the Mission District, North Beach, SOMA, and Potrero Hill, Third Street, Polk Street - all are OK! Do it NOW!!!

Since most of us are exhausted at the end of the work/school day, if there are not enough signatures, the campaign will have to pay the difference or Cindy can run as a Green Party member in 2010, which she should have done this time. There was no reason to have her run as an independent; her base is the Green Party and Peace & Freedom Party and in an election fraud city like San Francisco, you have to work from and as a member of your base.
