by Robert B. Livingston (confetti [at] lmi.net)
A small effort is all it takes for San Franciscans to make a real positive difference in this year's election.

Dear brother and sister San Franciscans,

Tired of working for peace and a better world to find out again and again that the powers-that-be don't really give a rat's ass?

Are you getting really fed up? Are you giving up?

DON'T!

Not now.

Not when YOU, as a SAN FRANCISCAN, can make a real positive difference in this year's elections!

Unlike most Americans who are told who they can vote for this coming November, YOU as a San Franciscan CAN tell the powers-that-be that this year you will do some of the choosing.

America's most beloved peace activist, Cindy Sheehan, made San Francisco her home and decided to run for Congress here because she knew that would be the best way to strike Bush and his gang of criminals.

We all know the story about how after her son Casey was killed in Iraq. Cindy camped out at Bush's ranch in Texas to demand answers which never came from him.

Few know, however, that she didn't stop at Crawford-- but instead turned to anyone who would listen to her pleas for help. For awhile, it seemed, the Democrats in Washington were listening.

But then, as the years rolled by, it became obvious that many of them were covering up for Bush and his gang. They were even helping him.

They promised America change while demanding loyalty... but meanwhile helped fund criminal wars, and became accessories to torture and the desecration of our Constitutional Rights.

Cindy did what any good patriot of conscience does when the cause is just but the door is forever locked.

She took on the powers-that-be and decided to give them a run for their money and influence. She openly challenged the system and decided the best way to cause change was to kick the door down!

Has it made a difference so far?

Maybe. Maybe not.

Recently, Nancy Pelosi (on "The View") uttered the previously unimaginable-- that she could conceive impeachment hearings against a president if the people had "the goods"on him.

(Do we have the goods on Bush? And has Pelosi helped hide those goods?)

**********

Cindy Sheehan recently turned in thousands of petition signatures supporting her listing on the ballot this November... but City Hall said many were no good.

She still has less than a week to make up the difference-- but it won't happen without YOUR help.

(Even though she recently turned in well over 10,000 signatures-- so many were rejected at City Hall that she still needs about a thousand.)

If you are a San Francisco voter, please drop in at 1260 Mission Street where Cindy Sheehan has her campaign headquarters. Please ask to sign her petition if you haven't already.

Please ask your friends and loved ones who vote to also drop by.

If you aren't a registered voter, Cindy has forms to help you get registered also.

Maybe you like Nancy Pelosi in Washington or maybe you think Cindy Sheehan's challenge of her is a big waste of time.

Is it right to send Pelosi back to Washington DC without a debate or without allowing her some real competition?

Pelosi has not met with any antiwar activists for years-- why should she later if she thinks her congressional seat belongs to her and not to the people she represents?

Allowing only Pelosi's name on the ballot (with her token Republican competitor) is no real race. It is not real democracy. Allowing Cindy Sheehan to challenge Pelosi can mean real democracy.

Do not forget that both the local Green and Peace and Freedom parties have endorsed Cindy Sheehan for Congress.

If you are a San Francisco Green or a member of San Francisco's Peace and Freedom Party you have no excuses for not signing Cindy's petition if you haven't already.

If you are a city supervisor who claims to be for peace and positive change-- you too have no excuses-- please call your supporters and ask them to sign for Cindy. San Francisco bedrock values of independence, magnanimity, and tolerance need to become the values of the nation. (You know it.)

To all: Please stop by Cindy's headquarters and ask to sign.

Cindy Sheehan's headquarters is easy to get to.

It is located at 1260 Mission Street between Eighth and Ninth Streets-- one block south of Market Street close to the Civic Center Bart Station.

The headquarters office will be open on Sunday, tomorrow, at 10 AM.
It will, of course, be open all week.

To call ahead for all office hours, directions, or questions, please call (415) 621-5027.

Thank you for reading this open letter-- and thank you for supporting democracy by signing cindy sheehan's petition.

Sincerely,

Robert B. Livingston
