FAT MAN,LITTLE BOY& THE MUSHROOM CLOUD!
Rembrance, Resistance and Revolution!
(Poets Reflect on America's Crimes of Empire)
August 6,1945, the U.S. dropped an atom bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.Three days later, Nagasaki was bombed.140,00 people died in Hiroshima and 90,000 in Nagasaki. This was an enormous historic crime.Yet to this day, the U.S. rulers have no regrets and have issued no apologies. As the U.S.threatens war-including the use of nuclear weapons-against Iran, supposedly because the Islamic regime seeks nuclear weapons capability,it is more important than ever to emphasize what country has been the first and ONLY to ever actually use such weapons.
Today, the U.S. has 10,000 nuclear weapons. While the prospect of an all out nuclear exchange between Russian and the U.S. has receded, the U.S.has continued to develop(and George Bush talks openly of) new and "more usable" nuclear weapons. All this, while U.S. nuclear missile-armed battleships cruise the Persian Gulf off the coast of Iran and threats of a U.S./Israeli attack on Iran escalate.Yes, they would use them! What else could Hilary Clinton have meant when she threatened to "totally obliterate Iran"?Although Barack Obama has called that language "inappropriate",as recently as July 2008,he stressed that "all options [up to and including nuclear weapons]are "on the table".
Hiroshima/Nagasaki- NEVER AGAIN!
"I heard children crying, buildings collapsing, men and women screaming.I saw the bright red of blood and people with dazed expressions on their faces trying to get away...I want to call out 'people of the world,do not let what Hiroshima has experienced ever be repeated.'"-Yoko Kuwahama, school girl from Hiroshima
Looking back and then looking forward:what crimes must we repudiate? And what kind of world do we dream of , and fight to bring into being?
