Working Together to Reduce Racism
10th Anniversary Tribute to
James Byrd Jr. of Jasper, Texas
In 1998, James Byrd Jr., a father of three from Jasper, Texas, was murdered by three white supremacists when they chained him to their truck and dragged him three miles to his death. Three young men were convicted of the crime. It marked the first time in Texas history that white men were convicted of murdering a black man. Sadly this hate-crime, one of the most heinous in recent memory, reminded us that the fight against prejudice and hate is far from being won.
Please join us at this tribute in commemoration of James Byrd Jr.. The event is sponsored by The James Byrd Jr. Racism Oral History Project, a project of the Byrd Foundation for Racial Healing, and will feature performances by Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, and Bill Spooner.
Tickets: $10, $20, & $35
