The Chevron Refinery expansion project in Richmond will build the capacity to refine much dirtier crude oil, which means more pollution, increased risk of explosions, fires, spills, and releases of poisons into our air, our bay, and our land. It’s a matter of life and death for residents in Richmond and the Bay Area. The City of Richmond has a choice. Will Richmond continue to be a global hub for pollution? Or will it define a new path with solutions that protect our health and the environment?

OUR DEMANDS:

Protect Our Health and the Environment: No increase in pollution!

We demand no increase in pollution as a result of Chevron’s project and a reduction of existing pollution from the Chevron refinery. Existing pollution from Chevron already causes premature death, cancer, asthma, and other health ailments. Low-income people and people of color in Richmond bear the brunt of Chevron’s pollution and its health impacts. All residents in the Bay Area are at risk.

Fund for Richmond’s Future: Make Richmond a hub of solutions to climate change and fossil fuel dependency Chevron must make a significant contribution to a community-controlled fund to invest in the development of a clean and green economy in Richmond. It is time for Chevron to transition away from fossil fuels and to fund a cleaner and healthier future for Richmond.

Transparent and Meaningful Public Process: Residents of Richmond and the Bay Area Have a Right to Know. All potential and existing impacts of the project must be disclosed and the public must have a meaningful opportunity to participate in decision-making.
