Girls Rock the movie event at the Red Vic Theater. Director Q&A
Girls Rock! follows the journey of four 8-18-year-olds as they are transformed by the liberating powers of music at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls. You’ll meet girls like Laura, an articulate Korean girl from Oklahoma with wobbly self-esteem who is obsessed with death metal, Misty, who is emerging from a life of meth-addiction, homelessness and gang activity to play an instrument she’s never seen, and 8-year-old Amelia, who writes songs about her Chihuahua Pippi and worries about not having any friends. Given the opportunity to bash the drums, wail like a banshee and take up space, the girls jettison gender stereotypes like old hats on their way to a joyous final concert that will change their lives forever.
The As Ifs, a bay area-based band who met at the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls in Portland will be playing in the theater at 6:30, the movie is at 7:15 and a Q&A with the directors of the film + Bay Area Girls Rock Camp organizers following the movie.
