Award-winning filmmakers give scoop on one of world's greenest cities

Going Green: Santa Cruz community comes together at Inner Light Ministries
to inspire and be inspired about sustainable living

Inner Light Ministries of Soquel,CA has a new Environmental Ministry that is
announcing itself to the Santa Cruz community with an event and film
screening. The Environmental Ministry's Launch Extravaganza takes place at
Inner Light Ministries (5630 Soquel Dr., Soquel, CA ) on Friday, June 6th,
2008 at 7:30pm. Along with a screening of "A Convenient Truth: Urban
Solutions from Curitiba, Brazil", Q&A will be provided by the filmmakers,
local mother-and-son team Maria Terezinha Vaz and Giovanni Vaz Del Bello.
The event kicks off with a performance by local Brazilian percussion
ensemble, Bateria Saborosa. Tickets are $5-20 sliding scale (no one turned
away for lack of funds). Advance ticket sales at Greenspace (1122 Soquel
Ave) and Inner Light after Sunday service. Proceeds benefit the Inner Light
Environmental Ministry. Donations will also be encouraged and accepted for
the Urban Solutions Project (sponsored by Ecology Action and led by Maria
Vaz), which will provide subtitles and closed-captioning so that "A
Convenient Truth" may be shown on public television.

The Launch Extravaganza provides a unique opportunity for any and all
members of the Santa Cruz community to come together and be inspired by the
possibilities for change towards a sustainable presence on our planet.
Santa Cruz may be poised to take on what many feel to be its rightful role
at the forefront of innovations for Green living, and the Launch, an event
that draws entirely on local talent, presents a good jumping-off point.

"A Convenient Truth...." is an informative, inspirational documentary aimed
at sharing ideas to provoke environment-friendly and cost-effective changes
in cities worldwide. The documentary focuses on innovations in
transportation, recycling, social benefits including affordable housing,
seasonal parks, and the processes that transformed Curitiba into one of the
most livable cities in the world. The film was awarded a 2007 Remi Award by
the WorldFest Houston International Film Festival.

In addition to benefitting from watching this film and having the chance to
question its filmmakers directly, participants in the Launch will be offered
a slew of opportunities for learning how to bring sustainability into their
everyday lives: the Environmental Ministry will announce and sign up folks
for their upcoming workshops on How to Green Your Life, outdoor classes,
small group support sessions, and more.
