EMERGENCY ACTION:
STOP THE RAIDS IN THE BAY AREA!
WHEN: Tuesday, May 27th 2008
WHERE: 10:00am @ 630 Sansome St. (at Washington St) SF
On Tuesday, May 27, elected officials, community members, clergy, immigrants rights groups and children of those affected will be holding a press conference and rally to protest the recent ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) raids in the Bay Area resulting in the arrest of 63 workers. This protest marks the first day in court for many of those detained.
WHY WE ARE PROTESTING?
On May 1st, 2008, thousands of immigrants and supporters marched in support of a path to legalization for the 12 million people who work, live and send their children to school yet are marginalized for not having proper documentation. Immediately, the day after, ICE conducted raids in the very cities where the immigrant community expressed its constitutional right to freedom of speech. This affront to freedom of speech is further worsened by the fact that most workers arrested are mothers and fathers to U.S.-American citizen children who are the hapless victims of a broken immigration system.
OUR DEMANDS ARE:
• Stop the Raids in Sanctuary Cities
• Stop the Retaliation Against the May 1st Immigrant Mobilizations
• Respect the Right to Counsel of Immigrant Detainees
• Stop the Raids at Schools, Homes and Work Sites
• Respect the Right to Return of Immigrants
• Legalization Now!
