Meet @ Town Clocktower 6pm

Join your fellow bicyclists for a group ride to demand the City Council support "Bike May Use Full Lane" signs on Mission Street.

Starting at the town Clocktower @ 6pm this Tuesday, we'll be taking up the right lane of Mission Street, and eventually ending the ride at the City Council Meeting.

Background:

Two experienced cyclists have been killed on Mission Street in the last year. Both of these deaths could have been avoided had the City designed the street 6 years ago with bike lanes. Both of these deaths could also have been avoided if the cyclists had felt safe riding in the middle of the right hand lane.

According to California Vehicle Code Section 21202, cyclists may use the full right lane when the lane "is too narrow for a bicycle to safely ride to the side of a motor vehicle." Two deaths occurred while cyclists were riding along the curb. It's outrageous for anyone to claim that these lanes are wide enough to ride safely side-by-side.

Caltrans is ready to cooperate with the City. Now it's up to us to convince the Council to follow through! Bicyclists all over the country are watching this struggle for the basic civil right to safely use a commercial street. Let's make it happen!
