At least 40 employees of St. Anthony's Foundation http://www.stanthonysf.org will be getting their pink slips, and hundreds of clients will be without shelter, and other valuable life saving programs when St. Anthony's closes or shuts down at least four of their services within the year.
According to an employee of St. Anthony's Foundation they plan to close the Marian Residence for Women in September 2008, and at least 60 people will be without shelter and access to "long term transitional residential services."

Clients in need of a "safe, supportive, and structured alcohol and drug recovery program" will have to go elsewhere when St. Anthony's closes and sells their "315-acre organic farm in Petaluma." It is slated to close by March 2009.

In the coming months many seniors will also lose help, when the SAF closes the Senior Outreach and Support Services Program, and many folks will not get help with employment when parts of that program are also closed.

Anyone can walk to St. Anthony's and see that neighborhood is nothing more than a war zone, and unfit for people who don't want to be exposed to, or deal with, violence, illicit drugs, property theft, or sexual predators, so the closing of those programs will be detrimental to the health and welfare of hundreds of people, but there has been no mention of closing the dining room, which has been in existence since the 1950's.

Women of the San Francisco Bay Area Unite!!!
We are the women of the Marian Residence For Women. We are in need of your help!
A very unique place will be closing on August 31, 2008, never to be opened again. Our place of residence, once a safe haven as a shelter and transitional program for homeless women.

Due to budget constraints, lack of donations and the down turn in the economy, the St. Anthony Foundation will be closing The Marian Residence for Women. Approximately 60 women will be losing a place of safety, and the Staff will be losing their jobs.

Most of the women here have little more than the clothes on their backs. Many have mental health issues, physical issues and some just can’t get that lucky break.

Some of us are from here, some are not. We are of all races, religions, and of all ages. No one is immune…

The City shelters are available, but nothing compared to this. This shelter is like the holy grail of shelters.

Where will the women who come behind us go, looking for a warm place to stay, good food, and structure with a possibility of getting their lives together; The Staff who are compassionate and caring and will let you cry on their shoulder and not yell at you.

MRW is a branch-off (subsidiary) of St. Anthony. St Anthony has given so much to the Community. In addition to MRW, they have a working farm for people getting off chemical dependency. They have a clothes closet, food kitchen that has fed anywhere from 1,000 to close to 3,000 people a day. They have a casual labor program to help people between jobs, an employment program/learning center.

St. Anthony and MRW have gone to City Hall to petition for legislation to regulate the other shelters. Everyone deserves to have the same clean and respectful type of shelter like we have experienced at MRW

Now, after doing so much good for so many, St. Anthony, and by the same token, MRW, have become victims of the recession.

This is why, We, the Women of MRW, have united! It is time to show MRW and St. Anthony how grateful we are! Yes, the best shelter is closing at the end of August. But, not without a fight. For ourselves, and those to come. Please help us keep MRW open. We are here to let people know the good MRW and St. Anthony have done and are doing!!!

When we first arrive at MRW and/or St. Anthony, the first thing that is shown to us, is… There Is No Shame In Asking for Help. Please help us, Help Them.!!!

Thank You!!!!
