On Wednesday April 30th there will be rally against the proposed budget for next year. Representatives Loni Hancock and Don Perata will be in attendance. This is an opportunity to tell Sacramento what our education means to us and if were to lose it.
Some of the things that they are threatening are:
Community Colleges: Cutting classes, increasing fees, denying access to 50,000 students, taking away an average of $72 per student.
K-12: Eliminating athletics, arts and music, increasing class sizes, laying off teachers and staff.
UCs: 10% tuition increase, no Cal Grants for students entering in 2008 and beyond, reducing benefits for faculty and staff.
CSUs: 10% tuition increase, denying access to 10,000 applicants.
Everyone affected by these cuts is invited to speak out.
