Is San Francisco's 911 Ready for LBAM? Chronicle Indicates No.
The SF Chronicle reports that 911 emergency services are critically understaffed and delayed on over 50% of emergency calls. How will they handle the hundreds of calls that are likely to come in when the aerial spraying starts this summer? This article explores this vital issue.

yes - funding of all the public agencies such as hospitals, mental health, schools etc. which used to be supported during less wealthy times after World War 2, is so screwed up right now. It doesn't make sense that everything is getting more expensive, when worker productivity is higher - i.e. we used to use paper filing and typewriters and now we have computers and so forth.

If no one told you about the spraying, 99% of you wouldn't notice. When the state informs you, every hypocondriac in the state becomes 'ill".
I have seen ludicrous stories here over the last few weeks. We are led to believe that "thousands" are leaving their homes due to spraying. Some are calling for real estate disclosure over it.
What idiocy. There will be no panic. There will be no public health crisis. What WILL happen is that most of us will go about our business while a silly few insist they are "poisoned".
Get over it.

Your response is callous. The 11 month old boy who nearly died from the spraying in 2007 is not only not a hypochondriac, but is also deserved of more care from you, as a human being, than your comment displays.
Please remember, we are dealing with a government that told the people in Nevada/Utah that standing in nuclear fallout was was safe as standing in sunshine. Countless people died of thyroid cancer and other types of cancer because they believed the government's assurances. You might also like to speak to some Vietnam vets who were sickened by Agent Orange after being assured that it was safe. Again, too many to count developed cancer and other problems.
Unlike CDFA and the USDA, residents have no reason to lie about being sickened. We aren't being paid. And the thousands of people who are now working diligently to halt this spraying are working not only to protect themselves from chronic exposure to carcinogens - they are working to protect you.
I urge you to search your heart and see if there is a better and kinder response in it for the 7 million people, who are your neighbors, who are going to be exposed to toxins.

The planes have been making mutiple LOW passes over our house in Seacliff for the past half hour. We tried to gather some rugs etc. off the deck and left the rest as they were flying right over our heads. I am now experiencing a strange taste in my mouth. It's kind of numbing with a strange coating on my tongue and in my mouth. Also one of my eyes are burning. I'd like to hear from anyone else experiencing anything similar.
selina 11/8/2007 9:19 PM
I am in scotts valley right now and they are spraying like crazy over here as well. I just came from santa cruz.. and yes, I have a light headed feeling and somewhat of a head ache. I wish I would have had a better warning of this. I would have taken my child and left..
JenCarole 11/8/2007 9:28 PM
I have to say, I really didn't expect this to sound so horrible and be so scary. My daughter is completely flipped out (thank goodness for Benadryl) because the sounds of the planes is horrible.
Bdager 11/8/2007 9:48 PM
I was out walking the dogs 8.20pm. in Soquel. Four fast high-powered planes on same or close north and south trajectory, two minuit intervals, low, about 2 to 300 ft. Like Sarah reports, one of my eyes burning, strange taste in the mouth, astmatic feeling in lungs and one of my dogs wheezing. Many other low planes. Now it's 9.45 and there goes another! Closed all windows and shut off ventillation.
rabbit hole 11/8/2007 10:18 PM
Sara, your description of the taste matches what I wife and I taste. Very odd synthetic metallically plasticy flavor in the back of the mouth. Our house was passed over 9 times and got a renewal of the flavor each time.
Fred 11/8/2007 10:20 PM
I have already had to double my oral stearoids due to respiratory problems, and this is only the first night! There have been no tests to show that this is safe for asthmatics living in the area sprayed...I cannot believe this is happening here!
Jonathan Mates 11/8/2007 10:52 PM
Ive seen five planes fly directly overhead, very close to ground and heard them several other times. How much can they spray? And tonight my asthma is acting up for the first time in over ten years. This is ridiculous.
Ginger 11/8/2007 11:15 PM
My son and I were sitting at our dining room table when we both became light-headed and I thought I was going to faint. Our hearts started beating rapidly because we thought we might pass out. This is absurd that this is happening. And we are INSIDE our home!
OPA 11/8/2007 11:37 PM
I want to know why they made a pass over the Metro at 8:15pm right on the heads of the riders waiting for the bus ? That is just plain nuts...
Anonymou s11/9/2007 12:36 AM
!! We are off of Water Street. We've just heard the 10th plane go over our house. I thought they were only supposed to spray ONCE in each place??
Sue 11/9/2007 1:04 AM
The plane, just then, could have hit my house. I swear to high heaven I could see its lights lighting up the trees in my side yard. I live in Soquel and that was waaaaayyyy to close for comfort. We are the real news here. The real deal. I wish our experiences we are sharing here on this blog could be cast nationwide...shoot, at least locally.
The next morning . . .

Walking home from a perfectly wonderful evening at our local neighborhood eatery last evening, a white plane flew overhead and within seconds, a chemical taste formed in the mouths of myself and friends. The plane or planes continued to fly over the Seabright / Branciforte area for over an hour. This morning, the taste still lingers even after several teeth brushings. I have a headache too and that is unusual for me. . . .I did not read any Sentinel article that said the pesticide would leave a metal taste in my mouth. So to suggest that the taste in my mouth is psychosymatic is ridiculous.

Ugh. So sleepy after a night of loud planes coming, again and again, from about 1:30 until about 4:30 am. . . .I didn't anticipate how loud the spraying would be and how long it would last. Exhausted!
mom of four11/9/2007 10:48 AM
They passed over my house at about 4:30am, I think. I shut my windows and the kids windows. This morning I have a head ache and my chest feels heavy. Could be from the spray...or just an oncoming cold. Hmmm. I wish the ag dept had tested the two unknown chemicals.
chy11/9/2007 11:11 AM
The planes were noisy zooming over our house this morning. My husband woke up with a headache and then vomitted. I have a headache and a sore throat. Could be an oncoming cold, could be the lack of sleep from the airplane noise, or could be a reaction to the spray.
Tammy 11/9/2007 11:08 AM
So, last night I could smell something in the house even though my windows were shut… and my chest is burning! Perhaps, my issue is psychosomatic? Or is it because both of my girls are complaining that their throats hurt! Perhaps… they are getting sick from a cold or are worse poisoned? We will never know…

I havn't been following the news latley so I was totally unaware of what was going to happen last night until the planes woke me up. (unfortunatley I didnt have my windows closed) I noticed a smell comming from outside, a few minutes later my wife had a headache and my eyes are still red /watering this morning.

I have asthma today. And there is a weird taste in my mouth. I am afraid to let my small pets outside, does anyone know if it is all right?
