Aptos, California, Kevin Bales, an internationally known speaker on modern slavery, will be speaking about ending slavery throughout the world. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Santa Cruz County is honored to have this celebrated speaker as part of the Sunday morning services at 10 AM on April 13, 2008.
Although many Americans believe slavery ended in 1863 with the Emancipation Proclamation, today there are an estimated 27 million people living in slavery around the world. Over 17,000 people are trafficked into slavery in the United States each year, making slavery as common a crime as murder.
Kevin Bales, and his organization Free the Slaves, has developed a 25 year plan for permanently ending slavery worldwide. By working with communities, governments and with rescued slaves, Kevin Bales offers practical solutions for eradicating slavery in both the developed and developing world.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu says, None of us is truly free while others remain enslaved. Read Kevin Bales practical and inspiring book (Ending Slavery), and you will discover how our world can be free at last.
Aileen Vance, noted local singer and songwriter, will be performing music during this service.
